Forster Bench Rest® Sizing Dies

Presicion Die

Full Length Sizing Die

Neck Sizing Die

For resizing your cartridge cases with absolute precision, Forster's premium quality Sizing Dies are just what the doctor ordered:

  • Our Bench Rest® Sizing Dies are manufactured from the finest quality steel. They are carefully machined on Hardinge chucking lathes to very tight tolerances, then heat treated and oil quenched to a Rockwell hardness of 58-60C;
  • All dies are hand polished and "Vibra-dyned" (an electro-chemical cleaning and polishing process) both before and after heat treating to guarantee an extra-fine finish;
  • Our full-length and neck Bench Rest® Sizing Dies are all equipped with our exclusive "E-Z" Out Expander button which solves the age-old problem of keeping case necks concentric during the neck expanding operation. The Floating "E-Z" Out Expander corrects misalignment of the center spindle assembly and prevents the case neck from pulling off center during the expanding procedure. As shown in illustration (A), the "E-Z" Out Expander button is in an elevated position near the neck of the case. In illustration (B), the case is withdrawn from the die, but most of the neck is still supported in the neck sizing portion of the die, which keeps the axis of the neck and the case in alignment. Our exclusive design also reduces the effort required to draw the expander through the case neck because it takes full mechanical advantage of the power developed in the linkage of your press. (This is not included with the Bushing Bump Dies.)

The design of our modular expander/decapping assembly allows you to easily replace individual parts. Expander balls, decapping pin nuts, spindles and all other individual components are still available separately from Forster Products, unlike other dies which require replacement of the complete unit.

Note: Use of the "E-Z" Out Expander system requires that the decapping unit be adjusted properly at all times. The unit is preset at the factory, but if the expander ball is readjusted and set too high in the die, case neck and spindle damage will result.

Our Bench Rest® Sizer Dies are manufactured with one-piece reamers to help guarantee concentricity between all machined diameters;

Forster Bench Rest® Bullet Seater Dies

Two "non-crimping" styles for accuracy, consistency, and perfect alignment.

Original Bench Rest Seater Die

Ultra Micrometer Seater Die

More than twenty years ago, Forster/Bonanza obtained U.S. Patent #3,440,923 for the design of the original Bench Rest® Seater Die. That patent covers the use of a specially machined, close fitting chamber that holds the case, the bullet and the seating stem all in perfect alignment. This innovative chamber design is still the hallmark of our Bench Rest® Seater Dies, because it's the premier system of all the so-called "in-line" seater systems that actually supports the entire outside diameter of the sized case rather than just the bullet and case neck. Over the years, we have continued to refine our seating stems to better fit the myriad of bullets currently on the market. Our "out of the box" seating stems will accomodate 90% of the ballistic tips and "vld" (very low drag) bullets now on the market. We also offer specially made seating stems to match any special bullet needs you may encounter. We have also added an ultra-accurate micrometer version of our original Bench Rest® Seater Die. But, our close fitting chamber (part #P-30) and our one-piece reamer manufacturing process that ensures concentricity has remained unchanged.

*.30-.30 caliber does require crimping for tube magazine rifles.

Now Available: Customized Neck Sizing Service For Bench Rest® Sizing Dies

For new or used Forster Bench Rest® sizers

If you're worried about overworking the necks of your case or if you want to size your cases without the expanding ball in place, Forster now offers an optional machining service that's just right for you. For a nominal $10 custom honing fee, we will open the neck area of your full length or neck sizing die to your specified dimension. Remember to allow for about .002" of springback as the brass is withdrawn from the die.

Compare our Bench Rest® Seater Die design to the exaggerated sectional drawing of a conventional bullet seater die as shown here:

Exaggerated Sectional of a Conventional Bullet Seater

In a conventional seating die containing a fixed chamber and a fixed seating stem, it's possible to start the bullet into the neck at an angle. Due to the design, the case is outside the die at an amount equal to the depth of the bullet entering the case. At the moment of entry, the case is not contained in or guided by the chamber. In the Forster Bench Rest® Seater Die, both the case and the bullet are held in a close fitting chamber while the bullet is being seated.
