Custom Neck Honing (Optional)

Diamond stoning process enlarges the inside dia. to prevent over-sizing due to thick neck walls. Useful for brands of brass cases with thicker neck walls or when you do not intend to outside neck turn case necks that have thickened after repeated firings. Please note:
1. No more than .008″ stock removal from your existing die neck diameter is possible.
2. Honing is done in increments of one half thousandth of an inch (.0005″), meaning that your specified inside diameter must be either .XXX0″ or .XXX5″.
Custom machining cost (below) applies.

  • Description

    Product Description

The Bench Rest® Neck Sizing Die reduces the outside case neck diameter, removes the spent primer and expands the inside case neck diameter.

For reloaders who choose to retain the fire formed dimensions of their cases rather than resizing the entire case, neck sizing-only dies fit a definite need. Although they only work the necks of cases, they do eliminate some problems associated with excessive headspace.

Neck sizing can also prolong case life. Neck sizers are available in a variety of calibers.

The exclusive elevated “E-Z” Out Expander Ball system makes the difference in this sizer die.

    Custom Neck Honing FAQ

    Q. How do I determine what diameter to hone my Sizing Die to?

    A. Measure the outside diameter of your loaded rounds and subtract 0.004″.

This “hone-to” dimension will prevent the Die from overworking the brass, while enabling the EZ-Out Expander Ball in the Sizer Die to provide consistent neck tension on the bullet.

Two other variables to consider when choosing the “hone-to” dimension are 1) varying neck wall thickness, and 2) differences in ductility, or spring-back, in different lots or batches of brass.
