With all the high-dollar powered case trimmers on the market today, it’s easy to assume this is a newer innovation.
It’s not.
Forster was already doing it back in 1970.

When you pair the Power Case Trimmer with the 3-in-1 Case Mouth Cutter, the proper collet, and a drill press with a solid stop—you’re looking at a setup that can do everything modern powered trimmers do… and in many cases, more.
The result is a powerful, consistent trimming system that doesn’t bog down—especially when you’re removing a lot of material.
In fact, during our .30 Whitetail project, we had to trim over .100″ off the neck. Most standard trimmers struggled or slowed way down. This setup didn’t.
Why this still works so well:

With the addition of pilots, you can also trim a wider range of cases that many modern powered trimmers can’t handle, including:
- .45-70
- .350 Legend
- 9mm
- …and more
What about cost?
While pricing isn’t what it was in the 1970s, you can still build this setup for less than many of today’s high-end trimmers—while gaining the added power and flexibility of a drill press.
Here’s a realistic example of what this setup can look like:
- Drill Press (Marketplace find): $75
- Power Case Trimmer: $120
- 3-in-1 Case Mouth Cutter: $81
- Collet: $18
Total: $294

If you’re looking for a faster, more capable way to trim—without jumping into a high-dollar system—this is still one of the most practical setups out there.
Sometimes the “new” solutions aren’t really new—they’re just rediscovered.
